It is a complicated route, I insist, but only a small sample of what comes next. All the elements of the stage are placed with that bad feeling so stabbing in the back while you smile, so damn timing and platform placed only a couple of centimeters beyond what your jump reaches. It is not uncommon to trust oneself, and it is then, a few meters from the initial starting point, when the platforms that serve as a support point after each glide begin to be reduced, the blocks that serve as obstacles to our ideal trajectory begin to be mobile, and the way to the goal begins to be carpeted with snipers and machine gun nests. In appearance it is nothing more than a small guided race, an aerial circuit that replaces the waypoints with squid a la romana and forces us to cross them all to increase our score. His tests, or at least the three that we experience first hand, do not leave a second of respite to the casual player, and a first testimony can be the sequence of the propellant. Perhaps literally, because the second lesson that we draw from this timid approach to the package is one that comes with blood: Octo Expansion understands that we know the base game, that we are familiar with its mechanics and from time to time it also assumes that we were born with an ink launcher between his teeth and cephalopods raised us, and he has fun throwing us with all his might against scenes that are delighted to devour us. There will be those who passionately follow the lore of this fable about adolescent invertebrates, but for ordinary mortals the important thing is the mechanics, and in that sense we are going to get fed up. From Nintendo they assure that the narrative will be an important part of the experience, but according to what we have seen it sounds like a testimonial excuse: the levels, and that is the grace, do not seem to keep any type of structural coherence between them, and the general scheme reminds more like a maddened gymkhana through which we progress by picking tickets at each attraction than a story with an approach, middle and end. As I said, Octo Expansion is built exclusively on them, and each of these eighty rooms is still a simple concept, a twist to the shot, the coverage or the use of the specials that is presented and dismissed after a few minutes the Nintendo style applied again to an alternative campaign that this time will lead us to embody Agent 8, an Octarian (man with an octopus on his head, for the uninitiated) in charge of advancing a plot that we also know little about. The first was obvious, because we talked about the franchise we talked about and because after two surprising campaigns to the single player side of Splatoon (the only one present in the expansion, by the way) there are still plenty of ideas on which to twist its basic mechanics.

The accounts come out very quickly, and as I said it was easy to leave the session with the guts roaring and the feeling of having run out of dessert: with just three tests passed out of all that total amount, without a doubt we want more.Īs a small appetizer, however, we talk about three brief flashes of gameplay that serve to ensure a few things.

If the foundation of downloadable content packages is to calm the cravings of those who enjoyed the original and wanted more, the structure chosen for the presentation of this Octo Expansion could not have been more successful: a brief visit to the place that serves base of operations (we cannot give too much data yet, but the thing has enough crumb), a subway ticket, half an hour to use it and in front of us more than eighty stations where to stop.
